The Road Transport Laboratory have completed a study that claims sending a text whilst driving is more dangerous than jumping in your car when you’ve had a drink or two.
In tests, the reaction time of drivers texting, dropped by 35%, whilst those who had drunk the legal limit for alcohol, only dropped by 21% and the test subjects that had taken Cannabis fell by just 12%. Heaven knows what danger the driver that’s had a drink and is texting whilst driving and smoking a joint presents to us all!
It should be obvious to any of us that texting while driving isn’t even the least bit safe, as to do so, you have one hand off the wheel whilst you try to look at the small text and of course, your mind is elsewhere as you decide what to say in the text.
Apparently, one of the key factors is the time it takes to write and send a text while driving and the research found that composing a text whilst behind the wheel, took on an average 63 seconds and that in that time, at city speed limits you would have traveled half a mile, but you can easily double that on motorways.
So don’t even think of texting when you are driving, as it could easily be the last thing you ever do and if you are caught doing it, well surely its got to be a driving without due care and attention, or even dangerous driving prosecution and that could cost you a big fine and most probably your licence also.
Texting is one of the most dangerous things you can do behind the wheel, so let’s have no more of it.
