All manufacturers it seems are fitting cars with bigger fuel tanks, but what is certain is that mostly all cars are getting more economical.
A recent economy run from Lands End to John O’Groats saw a new Toyota Avensis 2.0 D-4D T-Spirit Tourer complete a 904.9 mile trip from Cornwall to Scotland on just one tank of diesel, and the car average a mighty 71.5mpg.
At the beginning of their three-day journey, the drivers brimmed the Avensis’s 60-litre tank and programmed their route on the car’s Touch & Go navigation system. The on-board computer calculated a driving range of just 580 miles, but that limit was comprehensively smashed and the car covered more than 170 miles on the last bar of the fuel gauge.
