Can a car be a work of art? Well many petrol heads would say every Ferrari style supercar already is; however on June 24th at Sir Elton John’s White Tie & Tiara Ball held at his home in Windsor, around 700 VIP guests got the opportunity to bid for a car that is more likely to spend its life in an art gallery than on the road.
The car, a new Audi A1, is Audi’s smallest car, but what makes this one special is that it’s been “spin painted” (what ever that means) by contemporary artist Damien Hirst, who it’s said, has turned the compact hatch into an “extraordinarily vibrant, dramatic & colourful work of art”.
The car reached £350,000 at auction with the money going to The Elton John AIDS Foundation, who have programmes in 15 different countries and support thousands of people with life saving medication, nutrition, shelter and support, so that cant be bad can it.
