Seems The EU Don’t Want You To Know!
We all merrily troll along, trying to do our best and pretty much believing all we are told and where possible, acting on the advice we are given, as we are not cynics are we?
So its pretty bad to find out that things that we were told were good for the planet are probably not and its even worse, when it seems this information is being withheld from us by the European Commission.
Four well respected organisations are to take the European Commission to court, because it’s refusing to publish data on the alleged negative impact of the widespread use of bio-fuels within the EU and they are, Client Earth, The European Environmental Bureau, Transport & Environment and Bird Life international. They have brought the lawsuit to force the EU’s executive arm to release 140 documents which it is claimed, prove that bio-fuels are more damaging than regular petrol or diesel.
The organisations taking the action claim that there have been violations of European law that call for transparency, legitimacy and democracy within EU policy making. A spokesman said that whilst “the commission might not be seeking to hide the truth, because of its stance, crucial information is being withheld until such time as its not then relevant”, “The commissioners delaying tactics are totally against the spirit of the law”.
It’s a shame it seems that some organisations such as the EU, are so powerful that they can behave as they wish, leaving other concerned parties being forced to take legal action against them to insist they publish what we all have the right to know and you have to ask yourself why, particularly as the papers already exist, they can’t simply make them public (after all, its probably you and me that paid for the research).
