As if We Didn’t Know Already That
Well Henry Ford must be looking down with a smile on his face as two of the cars made by the company he started, way back in 1903 has just picked up a couple of major awards, but not as new cars this time, but as used ones.
I say, major awards and the reason I do that is because the award was made by CAP, who are the used car valuation experts and are pretty smart people and are well respected within the industry.
The judges were looking for a car that excelled in the areas of affordability, practicality of ownership, had a sustained and trusted reputation.
The judges voted unanimously that the Ford Focus was the “Used Car of The Decade” and said that the Focus set new standards of quality in the volume car market. The chairman of the judging panel said the award is a testament to the build quality of the Ford Focus that even cars from the late 90’s still feel as if they have many years motoring life left in them.
The Ford KA, got the accolade of “Small Car of The Decade” because it offered true affordability, with low running costs and simple, yet reliable engineering. From its launch in 1996, the KA offered something truly fresh to the small car market and used car dealers love them.
These awards are all about opinion and I guess we all see things getting awards, in all walks of life, that perhaps we don’t agree with, however in this case, we cant or wouldn’t argue with the verdict of the judges, because we agree whole heartedly that the two cars they picked (although very different to each other), really did give every other car maker a wake-up call that they had to smarten their acts up if they were going to compete and whilst that’s exactly what they’ve done, but despite that, even now, we feel the Ford Focus today, is still undoubtedly, the best car in its class and whilst the KA, is no more, there is a new KA, which has tried to stay true to the values and we expect will be having nice things said about it in a few years time.
