Over in Switzerland where they don’t approve of anything going fast, speeding motorists have their fines calculated using a formula that takes both the income of the motorist and the severity of the speed into consideration.
The fines seem to look at your daily income, and then multiply that by a number of days, based upon the speed you were doing.
In this case, the 37 year old Swedish man was travelling at two and a half times the national speed limit in his £140,000 6-litre Mercedes SLS and was detected by a number of radar traps during his trip, but he was going too fast for them, as they only read up to 125mph, but a later radar device / speed camera did record the drivers speed and it was a massive 186mph. The Police said the driver took over half-a-kilometre to bring his car to a halt and afterwards tried to excuse his behaviour by saying the Speedo on his car (which was new) was faulty
As a result, using the maximum penalty of 300 days of fines (income) which in this case is £2,166 a day and this unlucky Swedish driver could be facing a fine of £650,000……ouch!
Still, police say it’s the fastest speed anyone has ever been clocked at in Switzerland, so I guess that qualifies him for the Guinness Book of Records, oh and that fine, well that might just squeeze him into book as well for getting the world’s biggest speeding fine.
Don’t know about you, but I would be out of there, even if it meant leaving the car behind!
