227.070MPH Skoda – The Worlds Fastest 2-litre Forced Induction Production Car
OK, maybe you can’t trot along to your local dealer to buy one, but who would ever have thought that you would have been reading about a land speed record holding Skoda Octavia? (no its not a joke)
We love all of the new generation Skoda product and we’ve never been party to such awful jokes such as “what do you call a convertible Skoda? – A Skip” or “How do you double the price of a Skoda? – Fill up the tank” or Why do Skoda’s have heated rear windscreens? – To keep your hands warm while you’re pushing it.”
Image is everything for a car manufacturer and Skoda still suffers from the legacy of the very early days, long before Skoda became the Skoda we know today and yes, its illogical, yes its ridiculous, but we know from our customers reactions when recommending they consider a Skoda, that they still think driving a Skoda wouldn’t be a cool thing to do.
The latest Skoda image enhancing event took place on the 19th August 2011, when at the Bonneville Salt Flats in California, when journalist Richard Meaden drove a 600bhp supercharged Octavia over a file mile course achieving a top speed of 228.647 miles an hour and setting the record for a 2.0litre forced induction production car at 227.07mph.
The attempt was to celebrate 10 years of the Octavia vRS which if you’ve driven one, you will know is an excellent car!
So take a tip from us, throw away your inhibitions and take a visit to your local Skoda dealer when its time to change your car, as we know its going to be enlightening and who knows, you might just stop trying to impress other people and buy a car that impresses you!
