If you’re going to be chased by the Flying Squad, the last thing you want is for them to be in one of the quickest cars around, but unfortunately for you, that’s just whats going to happen.
Gone are the V6 Granadas, Consuls and Cortinas that Jack Regan and George Carter used in the 70’s and they’ve been replaced by black Ford Focus ST hatchbacks, so you can pretty much forget the idea of a clean getaway.
Not launched yet, the new Focus ST will chuck out around 250ps from its 2.0 turbo Ecoboost engine delivering sensational acceleration and top speeds of over double the UK speed limit combined with amazing handling that’s going to mean outrunning one of these around the streets of London is going to be near impossible.
Detective Jack Regan (Ray Winstone) and George Carter (Ben Drew) just have to be chuffed to bits as they hunt the bad guys down in these moody looking motors, making old London town a safer place to be.
We understand that Vertigio who are producing the new film secretly took delivery of six specially built Focus ST’s, although the Ford link does not end there as Ford Galaxy’s and Mondeo’s along with Transit Vans, will also feature in the movie which is due to premier in Scotland in September 2012.
Being the Sweeney’s choice isn’t the only thing that the new Ford Focus ST has to shout about, as its going to be Fords first ever global performance car, being available in something like 40 different countries after its launch in summer 2012.
So, seems like a match made in heaven and its great to see that the legacy of the original Sweeney TV series will see Regan & Carter back behind the “Blue Oval” and hopefully coming up with such wonderful lines as:- We’re The Sweeney son, and we haven’t had any dinner!
Can’t wait until September…….
