Lewis Hamilton Orders Custom Built Supercar and Splashes out Around £1.6million in the Process
None of us would ever deny the danger that top racing drivers are exposed to, but similarly, not many of us wouldn’t change places if we had the chance to enjoy the fame, celebrity and huge wage cheques that go with the job.
An example of just how big the wage cheques are has just been has been highlighted in Evo Magazine, who have reported that despite driving some of the fastest cars in the world for a living, Lewis Hamilton is about to stump up £1.6miilion to buy a very special Pagani Zonda supercar to use on the road.
Bearing in mind that Hamilton already gets an amazing 205mph McLaren MP4-12C as his company car which he can use everyday.
The Pagani is based on the wildly ridiculous Zonda 760RS, and is going to be dubbed as the ‘LH’ (I wonder why). The car has a carbon fibre body a massive 7.3-litre AMG built V12 engine producing 760 horsepower and importantly, and unlike his Mclaren, its got a manual gearbox and Hamilton is reported as saying the “my company car has a paddle shift gearbox, so when I drive for fun, I want a manual”.
The absurd looking Pagani looks similar to the normal Zonda 760RS, but looks as if you had asked some spotty teenage boy racer to wander around the parts bins and see if there were anything bizarre that could be bolted on to make the thing look more outrageous and like it or not, you certainly wouldn’t be able to ignore it if you saw it.
Hamilton has always liked his fast road cars and never been slow in demonstrating that and you might remember way back in 2007, when a young Lewis got a ban from driving in France for a month when he was caught at 122mph on one of their motorways, whilst he also miffed off the police in Victoria in Australia just a few days before the 2010 Australian Grand Prix, when he clearly lit the tyres up on his Mercedes-AMG C63 in what the police described as “deliberately losing traction”. Maybe he’s looking for a road car the police can’t catch this time?
I guess not many of us would actually stump up £1.6million to buy a car, irrespective of how wealthy we are, but just today, a picture, or work of art (as the posh people like to call it) called ‘the scream’ which in all honesty is an awful depressing thing was sold for $120 million and that’s around £74 million in proper money and based upon that, the car Lewis Hamilton is buying is an absolute steal at £1.6million and I would rather have that in my driveway and £72million pounds in change rather than a repulsive piece of art stuck on my downstairs cloakroom wall.
