BMW Offers its London Olympic Fleet For sale to the Olympic volunteers “The Games Makers”
Whilst no prices have been mentioned, German car builder, who made the “official” cars for the London Olympics (they happened earlier this year in case you had forgotten), are offering them for sale to the volunteers that made the games work so smoothly.
There were around 70,000 “Games Makers” involved in the games and they were the girls & guys that kept visitors and athletes alike informed about what was going on and where they could find things and loads of other good stuff.
Originally, it was intended that BMW’s own staff would be the chief beneficiaries of getting hold of nearly new cars with just a few hundred miles on the clock, at what was expected to be a knock down price, but BMW has now announced that so-called ‘Games Makers’ are to benefit from the used car offer.
There were around 3,200 vehicles used during the Olympics, including electric vehicles, bikes and cars of which around 1550 are 320d Efficient Dynamics.
There had been fears that defleeting so many almost new vehicles at one time would have a negative impact of the second hand values of used BMW’s and I guess, if BMW can convince enough people to buy them, rather than putting them into the dealer network for sale, that might minimize this.
Anyone who was a “Games Maker” will be contacted by LOCOG (the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games) and told about the offer. The cars will of course be refurbished before any buyers get them, and of course, the official Olympic logos and colour scheme will be removed.
Prices will vary depending on the specification of the vehicle, although it’s been suggested that savings over new cost, could be as much as £6,000.
