The UK government has reaffirmed its commitment to cleaner transportation.

The UK government has reaffirmed its commitment to cleaner transportation by extending the Plug-In Van Grant until April 2026, allocating £120 million to support the transition to electric vehicles. This extension, originally slated to end this April, provides a significant financial incentive for businesses and van drivers looking to switch to zero-emission vehicles.

The grant offers up to £2,500 for small vans weighing up to 2.5 tonnes and up to £5,000 for larger vans up to 4.25 tonnes. This initiative aims to reduce the upfront cost of electric vans, making them a more viable option for businesses of all sizes.

“From van drivers and businesses, to drivers with accessibility needs, bikers and cabbies, today we are making it easier, faster and cheaper for people to switch to electric vehicles,” stated Future of Roads Minister Lilian Greenwood. “By making the transition to zero emissions a success, we’re helping to drive growth all over the UK, putting more money in people’s pockets and rebuilding Britain to deliver our Plan for Change.”

Since its inception, the Plug-In Van Grant has played a crucial role in the adoption of electric vans, contributing to over 80,000 sales. This extension comes at a time of significant growth in the electric vehicle market. In 2024 alone, over 382,000 electric cars were sold, representing a 20% increase from the previous year, highlighting the accelerating shift towards electric transportation.

This continued financial support aims to further accelerate the adoption of electric vans, contributing to the UK’s broader environmental goals and supporting businesses in their transition to sustainable operations.
