The nanny state is striking again as Conservatives and the Liberal Democrats, in league with the European Parliament’s Environment Committee, are asking that tobacco-style safety warnings are introduced on TV car commercials as part of the awareness campaign against global warming and climate change.
Liberal Democrat MEP Chris Davies would like 20% of the TV advert to be used to highlight carbon dioxide emission levels and to remind us just how bad they are for the environment.
We think these proposals are ludicrous and can’t help but wonder why, with so many pressing issues in this world, that these people haven’t got anything more constructive to think about than stating the obvious. If these plans go through, it’s pretty simple; car manufacturers will find other ways to advertise their products and we like our car ads.
Whats going to be the next thing? Jeremy Clarkson and the Top Gear team forced only to test cars that have a massive fag packet style sticker on each door, or perhaps, only being allowed to test push bikes.
It’s a strange old world.
