Nissan have announced details of their new Pickup. The NP300, is currently available in Single and King cab and will be available in Double Cab from July 08. Available in 4X2 and 4×4 formats this replaces the old D22 pickup and now benefits from a Euro IV engine. The range will also be enhanced by the introduction of a Single Cab 4×4 Tipper later on this year.
The NP300 (I guess NP stands for Nissan Pickup) is the more commercial style pick-up, unlike the Navara which whilst it’s a pick-up also has very much become a lifestyle vehicle of choice.
It might seem strange having two very strong pick-up offerings in the range, but it probably makes fantastic sense, as it separates the two vehicles and means the person who chooses the lifestyle option offered by the Navara is now less likely to see “Bob the Builder” in the same vehicle, whilst Bob, can now get a more suitable “workhorse” commercial version for his business.
Below are the key points of the new vehicle:-
- Powerful 2.5dCi Euro 4 engine (133HP)
- 1135kg payload, 3000kg towing capacity
- Three body-styles
- 4×4 Capability
- Ideal for conversion
- Long Service Intervals (18,000mile / 1 year)
NP300 Single Cab –
- Accommodates 3 people
- Largest bed in the range – 2.2m in length and 1.4m in width
- Two and Four wheel drive available
NP300 King Cab –
- Accommodates 2 people
- Offers secure storage space inside the cabin
NP300 Double Cab –
- Accommodates 5 people
All versions are available with all-wheel drive, giving extra flexibility and reassurance to ensure that the toughest jobs are reached without difficulty. And to underline its suitability for the toughest working environments, the NP300 is fitted with a sump and fuel tank guard.
The engine is paired with a five speed gearbox, while its rugged independent front suspension and heavy duty rear leaf spring suspension ensure that NP300 can handle the most demanding loads and terrain. A limited slip differential is standard, giving added traction and stability in difficult conditions.
Its off-road credentials are clear, with a ground clearance of 230mm, an approach and departure angle of 31º, and a wading depth of 450mm. The powerful motor means that the NP300 has a maximum climbable gradient of 39º, and with a maximum lateral inclination of 48º, altogether, the NP300 has class-leading go-anywhere capability.
In addition the following features are standard across the range:
- Limited slip differential
- Power Windows
- Passenger Airbag
- Keyless entry
- CD Radio
- Front Fog Lights standard on all 4×4 models
Air Conditioning is optional along with electric, heated mirrors
So that’s what Nissan say and we will get hold of one very shortly and give it a good going over, so look out for our road test in our road test section. We liked the Navara, so let’s hope the NP300 is just as good….we will let you know.
